Transport to Lake Kivu

Lake Kivu is where Rwanda slows down: calm water, terraced shores and lakeside towns that make a natural rest between the busier parts of a trip.

Getting to the lake

The main lakeside bases are Rubavu (Gisenyi) in the north and Karongi (Kibuye) in the center. From Kigali, either is commonly around two and a half to three and a half hours by road. From Musanze and the volcanoes, the lake is an easy onward leg.

We plan the transfer to fit your wider route, whether the lake is a one-night rest or a longer pause.

Road times are approximate and vary with traffic, weather and road works. We confirm current timing with you before anything is booked.
